Free online social media courses by topic
Free online social media courses by platform
A note/disclaimer on Skillshare courses
A number of the courses I’ve shared are hosted on Skillshare, a leading online learning platform.
Most of their courses require a paid membership (£7/month), however as a Skillshare affiliate, I’m able to give my readers a 2-month free trial. Yay!
I’ll receive a small commission for anyone who continues after the 2-month trial, however as most of you are self-isolating because of Coronavirus, you should have more than enough time to complete all of these courses before your 2 months is up!
So without further ado, here are the free online social media courses.
Social Media Strategy Courses
Taking a great photo and adding an engagement-driving caption is one thing, but are you driving real results from your content?

These free online social media courses will encourage you to step back from day-to-day content creation and think about the (much) bigger picture.

In this free content marketing certification, you’ll learn the fundamentals of inbound marketing, a methodology that attracts customers by creating valuable content and experiences tailored to them.
While outbound marketing interrupts your audience with content they don't want, inbound marketing attracts people who know they have a problem, but don’t know the solution.
This course focuses a lot on the blogging side of digital marketing, but there are some really valuable sections on how to create inbound content for social media as well. For example, the importance of evergreen content in marketing.
For example, using blog content to drive informed, qualified leads from social media, rather than advertising your service outright in a Facebook post.

Inbound Marketing Certification by Hubspot
Once you’ve done the Inbound certification, the Inbound Marketing course goes deeper and shows you how to actually apply inbound principles.
This content marketing course goes into detail about blogging, content clusters, social media promotion, aligning with your sales teams, and more. For example, the difference between topical and evergreen content marketing.
There’s a lot of focus on lead generation, but the lessons they share apply to social media community management as well.

According to current research, 80% of people stop watching a video after the first 3 seconds. So short, snappy content will win the day.

Lucky for you, I’ve already done the looking!

Snapchat Courses
Oh, Snapchat.
Once the youthful, care-free social media platform that owned the lion’s share of Generation Z’s attention, Snapchat is slowly losing market share to other platforms that have since adopted the Stories format.
However, it’s still an important platform that shouldn’t be ignored.
Even now, 69% of 13 to 17-year-olds use Snapchat, and 62% of 18 to 29-year-olds use it as well.
If you’re still as confused about Snapchat as I am, these social media marketing courses should give you a head-start.
Snapchat Explore by Snapchat
First up is Snapchat’s very own learning platform, called Snapchat Explore.
Modeled after Facebook’s Blueprint, Snapchat Explore provides a decent selection of online social media courses covering the core competencies of Snapchat’s advertising platform.
However, they don’t provide any courses or guidance on organic social content creation, growth or engagement, so you’ll need to look elsewhere for help with those.
You’ll need an active Snapchat account to access the learning platform, so have your login details handy!
